While Some Governments Debate Online Records...
Others, like the forward-looking folks in Raleigh, North Carolina, who embrace the future by doing things like providing GIS-driven maps online, that citizens can use to take a look at crime in their communities. This is technology enabling democracy.

It's nice to see that they're also making their mapping shapefiles and rasters available for easy download. Journalists who use GIS programs themselves need that kind of data for their work.
There are too many government mapping sites that only let you look at maps.
